  • Shynell

"Hey, I'm Shynell, and I've been skating since May 2019! I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with skaters around the globe, and the sense of community is mind-blowing. As a coach, I pride myself on being patient and flexible, tailoring my approach to suit the unique needs of each student. Skating, like anything, has lots of ups and downs, and my coaching style focuses on providing progressive information, gradually building skills to ensure understanding and mastery. I don’t like to overload students with too much whilst they’re mastering the basics! Spins and one-foot balance classes are among my favorite skills to teach, as they unlock so much control and take you to the next level of skating. Fun fact about me: I have a tendency to burst into song randomly! When I’m not skating with Isle of Skating, you can find me across London from Flippers to Bethnal Green. Remember, don't compare yourself to others—others may appear to do more than you, but embrace your own skating journey and you will get to where you want to be!"

  • Amir

"Hey, I'm Amir, and I've been skating since 2003! What keeps me hooked on skating is the endless potential for improvement it offers - there is always room to improve, and although I’ve been skating for 20+ years, I’m always learning something new! As a coach, I see the potential in each of my students and strive to help them exceed their own expectations. My coaching style revolves around drilling and repetition, with a focus on developing balance—a skill that's often overlooked but crucial for any skater. Personally, I find joy in witnessing my students conquer their fears and achieve their goals. Outside of coaching, you can catch me at Flippers or Roller Nation, honing my skills and enjoying the thrill of skating. Remember, the journey may be challenging, and skating might seem scary, but trust me - after 6 weeks at Isle of Skating the rewards are worth it!"

  • Jahmel

"Hey, I'm Jahmel, and I've been skating since childhood! In the simplest terms, skating brings me a feeling of pure happiness. As a coach, I bring a fun, energetic, and can-do attitude to every session, inspiring my students to push their limits, learn new skills and and unleash their inner skater. My coaching style revolves around my passion for skating. I'm patient, fun, high-energy and I can adapt my training techniques to benefit individual needs. I'm particularly fond of teaching jam skate moves, as they allow for creative expression and freestyle fun. Coaching is a way for me to share my passion for skating and help others overcome their fears. Oh, and did I mention I bake tasty cakes too? Catch me at various skate rinks and parks across London, spreading the joy of skating wherever I go. Remember, if you are able to release your fear, anything is possible on skates!"

  • Malique

"Hi all, I'm Malique, and I've been skating since around mid-March of 2020’s lockdown! Skating is my ticket to freedom and happiness, and it pushes me to constantly improve. As a coach, I bring patience, fun, and unwavering support to every session, encouraging my students to embrace challenges and push through their boundaries. My coaching style is interactive and inspiring: I want people to fall in love with skating but also hone those essential skills. Skate jam routines are my jam, and I love seeing my students light up as they master new moves. Coaching is a joyous journey of discovery, both for myself and my students. When I'm not coaching, you'll find me gaming or at the the rink at Flippers or Roller Nation. Remember, skating is about having fun and pushing yourself to new heights!"

  • Kat

"Hey there, I'm Kat, and I've been skating for 18 years, and began with figure skating at the age of 8! For skating is my stress-free space. It helps me keep active and connected to a vibrant community of fellow skaters - the best thing is feeling like everyone who skates is a giant connected family! As a coach, I have a keen eye for detail and enjoy pinpointing areas for improvement to help my students reach their full potential. My coaching style is broad and varied - to me it’s like a giant smorgasbord! I like to give skaters a lot of samples of things to work on to keep sessions engaging and productive and so you never get bored drilling the same thing - some of my favourite skills to teach include crossovers and transitions. One of the reasons I love coaching is that it allows me to contribute to the growth of the skating community and inspire others to discover the joys of skating. “

  • Kareemah

"Hey, I'm Kareemah, and I've been skating since 2020! Every day on skates is an opportunity for improvement, which is what keeps me hooked on skating. As a coach, I bring patience, a love for yoga, and a passion for seeing others progress to every session. I love ewing my students overcome their challenges. Each of my classes revolve around some balance drills, a thorough warm up, and a breakdown of this weeks skill. I like to emphasise that there is no wrong or right speed to learn - instead it’s about learning things correctly, which is far more important! Whether it's teaching stopping, backwards skating, or skate jam routines, I'm dedicated to helping my students build confidence and proficiency for skating at the rink and on the streets. Coaching allows me to witness students progress at a rapid pace, and I love to share in the excitement of my students' accomplishments. A fun fact about me is I love aerial hoop and hammock in my spare time! I love meeting new people - find me skating at Montrose Park, Flippers, or street skating in London! “

  • Shaz

"Hello, I'm Shaolynn, and I've been skating since 2009! The exhilarating feeling of speed and freedom is what drew me to skating initially, along with the opportunity to help others learn and grow. As a coach, I bring a high-energy, personal approach to every session, ensuring that my students feel supported and empowered to tackle new challenges. My coaching style is structured yet energetic, providing a platform for skaters to progress at their own pace. Stride is one of my favorite skills to teach, as it embodies the grace and power of skating. Witnessing my students' progress and instilling confidence in them is what drives my passion for coaching. Fun fact about me: I once appeared in a Pet Shop Boys video! Join me at various roller derby games across London, and let's explore the thrilling world of skating together!"

  • Kitty

"Hello, I'm Kitty, and I've been roller skating since 2007! Skating empowers me and makes me feel invincible, not to mention the amazing friendships I've made along the way. As a coach, I am amazing at breaking down techniques into manageable chunks and providing targeted feedback to help my students achieve their goals. Sometimes the devil is in the detail and all it takes is a small tweak to make a move look, and most importantly, feel better. My coaching style is structured yet fun! I like to teach plow stops, crossovers, and transitions, and use them as combination moves with other skills. Outside of coaching, you can find me dominating the roller derby track- in fact I’m a 2014 silver medalist at the Roller Derby World Cup! I love watching skaters progress and become passionate about rollerskating!

  • Ronja

"Hi, I'm Ronja! I've been on quads since 2021, but I played ice hockey when I was a kid. Skating empowers me and allows me to do cool things with my body, feel strong, all whilst connecting with an amazing community. As a kids coach, I'm encouraging and fun, but also like to break down techniques so I can support the different learners that come through my sessions. My coaching sessions are structured with a mix of skill-building and free skating, aiming to provide a well-rounded experience for my students. I aim to give each of my students individual feedback every class so they know where they’re at in their personal development. Coaching is a fulfilling journey of learning and growth, both for myself and my students. I do a lot of teaching in various fields of my life - What are we on Earth for if not for helping each others grow, right? When I’m not skating, i’m either playing roller derby or tucking into my favourite food - pizza!”

  • Nele

"Hi, I'm Nele and I've been skating since 2010! My favourite thing about skating has been the ability to travel the world and meet new people who all love to skate! I’ve loved teaching people to skate - particularly crossovers, transitions, and all the different types of stops. As a coach, I am energetic, encouraging and adaptable! I love to see people progress and share a skating passion.

A fun fact about me is I am a travelling roller derby coach. I don’t have a single favourite place to skate, but I have skated in some very odd places - including Death Valley in Las Vegas! If I had one message to my prospective students, it would be that I can't wait to improve together!'

  • Luna

"Hey there skaters! I'm Luna, a roller derby enthusiast and the proud owner of Skate Wiznezz, all the way from Hong Kong!

I landed in London in February 2024, bringing my passion for all things skating with me. My journey started on figure and speed skates at the young age of 9, but derby truly stole my heart in 2014. You could say I live and breathe skating – any style, anywhere! I even took the "wear your skates for 24 hours" challenge to the extreme, sleeping in them (don't worry, I brought comfy socks!).

When it comes to coaching, I believe strong fundamentals are the foundation of derby greatness. My approach is all about building confidence. I can help you master the basics or add exciting variations to keep things challenging. "

  • Lily

"Hi, I'm Lily, and I've been skating since 2012! The best part of skating, for me, is the incredible community and the lifelong friendships you make. It’s such a big and growing community and it’s wonderful to meet people with the same passion as you! As a coach, I bring energy and patience to every session, ensuring that learning is both productive and enjoyable - I love to mix it up with some games too! I believe in taking things step by step, allowing ample time for skill mastery without overwhelming my students. One of my favorite skills to teach is crossovers, as they're fundamental to building confidence and agility at the rink. Coaching is deeply rewarding, especially when I see my students leave the rink feeling accomplished. When I'm not coaching, you can find me tearing up the roller disco or playing roller derby. Remember, every skater progresses at their own pace—embrace the journey and don’t compare yourself to others!"

  • Lujan

"Hi, I'm Lujan, and I've been skating since 2005! For me, skating is all about creativity in motion and self-expression, not to mention the wonderful global community it brings together. I love how versatile it is and how you can literally skate any time or any place. As a coach, I aim to make sessions fun and adaptable, tailoring exercises to suit both group and individual needs. With a background in artistic rollerskating, I'm passionate about teaching various skills, from backwards skating to intricate transitions. Coaching has been a journey of personal growth for me, overcoming challenges and embracing my creative side. You might find me skating at Flippers or exploring the streets of London when I'm not coaching. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself and embrace the joy of skating!"
